road.cc smartphone mobile site (temporary) switch-off

We're switching off the swipeable smartphone version of road.cc on mobile for a couple of weeks...

We’re switching the smartphone mobile version of road.cc (the one with the swipeable nav) off this morning for two weeks while we do some some testing on the back end of the site.

So apologies to those who like to swipe through the pages of road.cc on their phone. On the plus side though you will be able to log in to the site and comment etc from your mobile for the next couple of weeks without the need to switch over to the classic version of the site.

Swiping will be back two weeks from today, after which we’ll be digesting what we’ve learned while it was away.

road.cc's founder and first editor, nowadays to be found riding a spreadsheet. Tony's journey in cycling media started in 1997 as production editor and then deputy editor of Total Bike, acting editor of Total Mountain Bike and then seven years as editor of Cycling Plus. He launched his first cycling website - the Cycling Plus Forum at the turn of the century. In 2006 he left C+ to head up the launch team for Bike Radar which he edited until 2008, when he co-launched the multi-award winning road.cc - finally handing on the reins in 2021 to Jack Sexty. His favourite ride is his ‘commute’ - which he does most days inc weekends and he’s been cycle-commuting since 1994. His favourite bikes are titanium and have disc brakes, though he'd like to own a carbon bike one day.

Please use your coders to bring the main web site up to scratch. It works well enough, within its present constraints, on all devices. It's obvious that you don't have the resources for two sites.

Please leave it turned off. It is a mess and horrid to use.

Much cleaner and simpler right now without it on!

First time I used it I found it infurating.  Soon switched over to just using the normal site on my phone.

Just leave it off and then build a proper responsive site!

Might as well join in. The classic version is better. Like 1000x better. That is all.

If you have to bring it back, please get rid of the permanent smartphone banner that follows you everywhere. If I want to swap, I'd like to have a fixed button/link, not some floating banner I keep accidentally triggering.

Another +1 for leaving it off - the swiping was always way too sensitive and I never seemed to be able to see article/forum comments using it. Swiping in particular must have skewed your page read stats.

Please feel free to leave it off, or at least buried in a menu option somewhere out of the way.

Please leave it off permanently. The mobile version is utterly crap and terrible. The previous version without all the swiping shite is a lot better. Put it in the bin and ask for a refund from your IT contractors as it is awful, woeful, lame and dead on arrival. Get rid thanks.
