It could happen: high-visibility cycling jacket with built-in lasers

This'll make the cars keep their distance

A jacket that emits light from over 100 lasers attached to its front, back and arms could be the ultimate high-visibility accessory for cyclists. Or even more fun than that.

This made us chuckle and it might not be very practical at the moment as artist Wei-Chieh Shih was only thinking out of the box. So there are no plans to manufacture the jacket but its ability to illuminate in all directions in principle would make it a highly-effective lighting system for urban cyclists wanting to be seen by other traffic, or, indeed to vapourize them which is what immediately occured to us. According to the artist, who is trying to be a bit more serious, "Conventional lights illuminate only the road ahead, but the majority of collisions involving cyclists that occur at night happen when a rider is struck from the side."

A spokesperson for the Environmental Transport Association (ETA) said: “Bicycle lights are getting brighter and can now be incorporated into clothing, so a laser light jacket is not as far-fetched an idea as it might seem.”

Maybe they could replace it with LED's and some emitter that alerts the drivers GPS.

Or to be placed on the bike rather than rider.

How much??!!
