Car crashes into building - please post your Local news stories

Running this one up the flagpole to see who salutes...

I just don't remember this being a thing until recently, now it seems a daily occurrence.
Could it be that there are drivers not up to the job, too many cars; should houses be made to ride in single file, shops put on high viz, why are we putting newer buildings in danger like this, it's irresponsible.

'A Dorset Police spokesperson said: "Dorset Police was called at 12.48pm on Thursday, August 13, to a report of a collision involving a car and a wall outside Iceland on Poole Road in Bournemouth.

"It is reported that the vehicle was also in collision with a pedestrian, but they did not require medical treatment." '

A couple say they are fearing for their lives as a huge 4x4 car has been left "dangling" at the top of their back garden for several days. They fear the vehicle could career into their house at any moment. The Mitsubishi is perched with its rear wheels mid-air, held back only by a tree stump.

"'It's lucky no one was killed' says Malvern home owner after car ploughs into house" . Did the car plough into the house on its own?

That Chesterfield one is close to home.

Apparently hooning down a redressed road, losing control, and causing life changing injuries to three people is "Careless"not "Dangerous". £750 compensation each.

Meaning, shitty Transport Minister Mark Harper does not give a damn.

Parents of girl, 15, killed in crash hit out at 'appalling' police investigation

Katelyn Dawson died after a BMW ploughed into a bus stop

Yesterday (April 11), following a seven-day inquest, senior coroner Martin Fleming concluded that it was 'more likely than not' that the BMW driver, Richard Brooke, had suffered a temporarily loss of consciousness due to fainting at the wheel. He said he had felt unwell and had 'tunnel vision' and could not remember what happened after that.

No criminal charges were brought against Mr Brooke following the incident. But Katelyn's parents Angela and Colin Dawson said the investigation after the crash was 'appalling' and that police had 'failed' their daughter.

I trust that Mr Brooke has voluntarily surrendered his driving licence until he can get to the bottom of his medical issues?

Pupils at a primary school have been evacuated after a car drove into the building.

https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/live-updates-car-plo...

First of all, it's quite clear what happened here; the school came out of nowhere, the driver did all they could to avoid a collision but there was nothing that they could do to stop the classroom trying to consume their car.

Secondly, cars are too strong. We need to protect children and the only way that we can do that is to reinforce and fortify the schools. Also, the schools need crumple zones.

Thirdly, maybe all children need to be kept in zorbing balls all day, just in case. It's the only way to stop this happening again

She seemed a bit upset about a minor misjudgement that could have killed someone and is going to cause months of stress and inconvenience.

Yes, right after "it lost control."

it seems extraordinary to me that a death can just be written off this way:

Seems like a case for additional safety measures e.g. at least some feedback if you try to cross into a lane with oncoming vehicles.  Although without actual barriers between lanes this might not have changed the outcome here.  And even then possibly the car driver would still have been hurt.

Unfortunately there's a general feeling of "sadly accidents happen ... but not to me and mine!"  Until one does.

Car crashes through downstairs bedroom window of elderly woman's home in Twickenham https://www.standard.co.uk/news/london/twickenham-car-crash-jeremy-vine-...

I read this earlier (can't bring myself to follow all the way through to the Heil):

The Sun wrote:

The dangerous crash reportedly happened when the driver was trying to park and accidentally pressed down on the accelerator - revving the motor straight into the house.

Neighbours said the pensioner living inside was in another room when it happened so was unharmed and the driver was also left injury-free, reports the Daily Mail.

…which rather begs the question of (1) how hard she had intended to apply the brake, and (2) how hard she actually pressed the accelerator.

It was the run up to the ramp that seems difficult to explain...

When you also look at a couple of the recent stories downthread, from Ringwood and from Abingdon, a likely pattern emerges - automatic car, elderly driver and I'm further guessing, unused to automatics (daughter -"it'll be easier for you, mum") and some poor technique (e.g. use of left foot).  Guessing further still convinced they're on the brake, they press even harder on the accelerator as panic sets in.

These houses sit at the end of the cul de sac - have a Google to see.

Electric cars soon, which for some reason will just HAVE to be able to accelerate to 60mph in 4-5 seconds...
